What is hypnotherapy used for?

At The Nest Hypnotherapy Clinic, we specialise in using Hypno CBT to address issues related to stress and anxiety.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) stands out as one of the most extensively researched and effective forms of psychotherapy available. It operates on the premise that anxiety stems from deeply ingrained dysfunctional thoughts that influence our emotions and behaviours.

At The Nest, we enhance the power of CBT by integrating hypnotherapy, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness practices. This holistic approach delivers rapid, efficient, and enduring results.

By challenging negative thought patterns and entrenched beliefs, we guide you in reprogramming your subconscious mind to cultivate positive changes in both feelings and behaviours. Our clinic provides a safe and nurturing environment where you can freely express yourself, whether in-person at The Nest or via video call.

We prioritise individualised care, listening attentively to your unique concerns and goals. Our treatment plans are tailored to your specific needs, incorporating personalised goals, treatment approaches, and time frames. In addition to one-on-one support, we offer customised workshops designed to address both individual and workplace needs.

Experience the transformative power of Hypno CBT at The Nest Hypnotherapy, and take the first step toward a life of greater peace, resilience, and fulfilment.

  • Anxiety makes us feel uneasy, it causes us to worry about things or be fearful. From worrying about speaking in meetings to being terrified of flying. Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life, it’s part of the fight or fight response and sometimes necessary.

But if it’s getting in the way of you fulfilling your potential it’s time to deal with it. It could be that you worry so much and feel and so anxious about sitting an exam, or going for job interview that you are unable to perform properly. For some anxiety comes and goes, but for others it is constant and affects all aspects of daily lives.

Fortunately, cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy is really affective at dealing with anxiety.

How do you know when you need help?

Are you feeling tired, restless or irritable?

Do you feel shaky or trembly, dizzy or sweaty?

Are you struggling to concentrate or make decisions?

    Do you have trouble sleeping?

Do you ruminate about the past or worry about what might happen in the future?

Do you think something bad will happen more than others?

Do you have headaches, tummy aches or muscle pain?

Do you suffer with a dry mouth?

Do you notice your heartbeat gets stronger, faster or irregular, or you get short of breath when you start feeling anxious?

If you feel that any of these symptoms describe you, it’s time to act.

  • Everyone feels stressed at times. Life throws up constant challenges that are stressful, such as money worries, problems at work or issues with the people around us.

Sometimes we need stress, it helps us to get things done or enables us to focus on things that need to get done. But not managing stress can start to affect our emotions which starts to impact our lives.

How do know when stress is starting to affect you?

Are you more irritable, angry or tearful than usual?

Do you feel worried, anxious, hopeless or scared much of the time?

Are you struggling to make decisions?

Do you have negative thoughts flooding your mind?

Do you feel overwhelmed by emotions and unable to cope?

    Do you have stomach problems?

    Do you have stress headaches?

Do you get odd pains including muscle pain?

Do you have skin reactions, like stress rashes and hives?

Do you suffer from feeling dizzy, sick or faint?

Do you suffer from high blood pressure or chest pains even when you don’t feel stressed?

Do you over eat or not have an appetite for food?

    Do you drink too much?

    Do you smoke?

Do you rely on other substances as a crutch to help with stress?

To you avoid certain situations, like going out?

If you recognise these things are a product of too much stress in your life, we can help at The Nest?

We use a combination of CBT and hypnosis. CBT is the most well-researched and effective psychotherapy there is! It is based on the principle that stress is caused by deeply ingrained dysfunctional thought processes that affect the way we feel and behave. When we address your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and start to understand your triggers and responses, we can work together to address them.

A meta-analysis in 1995 showed that CBT combined with hypnosis was more effective than the same treatment with just CBT with issues ranging from obesity and hypertension to insomnia and public speaking anxiety. In 2005 another study showed that with acute stress there was a greater reduction in re-experiencing symptoms post-treatment than CBT alone!

  • Everyone goes through periods in our lives where we’re stuck in a rut! You may feel like you’re just going through the motions of life, be it at work, or in your relationships, or with friends. It could be that things no longer excite you like they used to or you feel like moving toward your goals is like walking through mud. You could feel stagnant, or just stuck!

Feelings, actions and thoughts are all linked together. thought of “I’m stuck,” can lead to feelings of disinterest and dissatisfaction. Over time it can make us want to give up on our goals and lead to feelings of hopelessness.

How do you know when lack of motivation becomes a problem?

Do you follow the same routines day after day, only to one day realise that it feels less like you are working toward something and more like you’re just killing time?

Does every day seem the same?

Do you sometimes have trouble remembering what day of the week it is?

Do you feel like you’re just trying to get through another day?

Do you feel unmotivated or just can’t get started?

Do you feel unfulfilled and like your life is dull and boring?

Do you want to try new things, but you don’t know where to begin?

Are you scared of change or scared of failing?

Does changing things feel uncomfortable but you know that changing things up will make you happier in the long run?

If you find yourself feeling like this, we can help you to feel motivated again at The Nest Hypnotherapy. Whether its procrastination or a troubled marriage, we can help you find solutions to restore your motivation to solve the issues at hand so you can begin to look forward and feel excited about life once again.

  • We all suffer with a lack confidence at times throughout our lives. It can make us feel bad about ourselves and lead to thoughts of “I’m not good enough” or “Why me!”

But low self-esteem over time can become a problem if we don’t deal with those thoughts, feelings and the actions associated with it. It can have a negative effect on our mental health and our day-to- day lives.

Self-esteem is what we think about ourselves. When we have healthy self-esteem, we tend to feel positive about ourselves and about life in general. It makes us better able to deal with life’s ups and downs. However, when our self-esteem is low, we tend to see ourselves and our life in a more negative light and critical voice can go overtime! It makes us feel less able to take on the challenges of everyday life and the things that life throws at us.

How do I know if I have low self-esteem?

How does low self-esteem affect us?

Do you suffer with a lack of confidence?

Do you hide yourself away from social situations?

Have you stopped trying new things?

Do you avoid things you find challenging so you feel safe?

Do you have a fear of failure?

Living with low self-esteem can harm your mental health and lead to problems such as depression and anxiety. It can also lead to bad or unhelpful habits, such as smoking and drinking too much, as a way of coping.

  • Cognitive-behavioural hypnotherapy is extremely effective for addressing various phobias, from fear of flying to a fear of spiders.

We work with you to uncover the underlying causes or triggers of your phobia. This may involve exploring past experiences, traumas, or learned behaviours that have contributed to the development of your phobia.

We use well researched techniques to challenge and reframe irrational thoughts and beliefs associated with your phobia. Through hypnosis, we can help you to access your subconscious mind more easily, allowing for deeper exploration and restructuring of these thought patterns.

Exposure therapy involves gradually exposing you to the object or situation you fear in a safe and controlled environment. Hypnotherapy can be used to induce a relaxed state during exposure, making it easier for you to confront your fears and learn new, more adaptive responses.

Hypnotherapy can also be used in the process of desensitisation, by helping you to achieve a state of deep relaxation while imagining or confronting your feared object or situation. This can help reduce the emotional intensity associated with the phobia over time.

We teach relaxation techniques, mindfulness and coping strategies to help you to manage anxiety and stress related to your phobia both during and outside of hypnotherapy sessions.

We use positive suggestions and imagery during hypnosis to reinforce desired behaviours and attitudes, helping you to build confidence and resilience in facing your fears.

Through hypnosis, you can access your inner resources and strengths, empowering you to take control of your phobia and overcome it more effectively.

By addressing both the cognitive and emotional components of fear while utilising the powerful tools of hypnosis to access the subconscious mind and facilitate change you can fly free from the restraints of your phobia.

  • Cognitive-behavioural hypnotherapy is very effective in addressing various habits, such as drinking too much alcohol. By targeting the underlying cognitive processes and behavioural patterns associated with the habit it can be used to significantly reduce things like alcohol consumption or stop nail biting or hair pulling.

We will help you to identify the triggers and patterns that contribute to the habit. This involves exploring the situations, emotions, and thoughts that lead to it.

By using cognitive-behavioural techniques, we help you to challenge and reframe distorted thoughts and beliefs related to the habit. This may involve addressing irrational beliefs about it, such as beliefs about its ability to relieve stress or enhance social interactions as in drinking too much.

We teach you coping strategies to manage cravings, stress, and other triggers without resorting to the habit. These strategies may include relaxation techniques, problem-solving skills, healthier ways of coping with emotions and the use of contrasting actions.

Hypnotherapy is used to induce a state of deep relaxation, making it easier for you to learn and practise relaxation techniques. This can help reduce stress and anxiety, which are common triggers for alcohol use and other habits.

Cognitive-behavioural hypnotherapy helps you to explore and address underlying issues that contribute to alcohol addiction of nail biting, such as past trauma, low self-esteem, or co-occurring mental health disorders.

We work with you to enhance motivation and self-efficacy for change. Through hypnosis, positive suggestions and imagery are used to reinforce your commitment to sobriety and belief in their ability to change your habits.

We help you to develop a relapse prevention plan to identify warning signs of relapse and strategies for coping with cravings and high-risk situations. Hypnotherapy can be used to strengthen your resolve and confidence in maintaining sobriety and being free from your habit.

We provide ongoing support and accountability throughout the recovery process, helping you to stay motivated and committed to your goals.

By integrating cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques with hypnotherapy, we can address the psychological, emotional, and behavioural aspects of alcohol addiction and other habits, facilitating long-term recovery and sobriety.

Walk and Talk Therapy

Walk and Talk Therapy

Here at The Nest Hypnotherapy, we have extended our services by offering 'Walk and talk' therapy sessions for anyone that would like help with problems that relate to stress and anxiety.

Walk and talk therapy is especially helpful for people who prefer to talk side to side rather than face to face or those who may feel a little anxious or claustrophobic in the environment of a therapy room.

It has many other benefits as when we move our bodies and change our environment, we start to think differently about areas of our lives that before seemed immovable. Taking therapy outside is also physically more relaxing for our bodies and mind, allowing us to open up more.

Walk and talk therapy is also great for helping with feelings of being “trapped”, and helps us to be forward thinking.

Also, when we are outside our brain releases endorphins which lifts our mood, lowers blood pressure, boosts our immunity, speeds up digestion, and improves the health of our hearts.

If you feel like you would benefit from walk talk therapy and would like to try a free walk and talk therapy session, please contact us here to book your first session.  Our ‘Walk and Talk' sessions are one to one and last for about 40 minutes. We use the footpaths around Frieth- so bring your wellies!
